Frequently asked questions

Health insurance

Does French Social Security cover me in Thailand?+
No. There is no bilateral health agreement between France and Thailand. After 3-6 months outside France, you lose your rights. Options: join the CFE or subscribe to first-euro insurance.
CFE or first-euro insurance, which to choose?+
CFE + supplement = more protective, no medical questionnaire, chronic diseases covered, but more expensive. First-euro insurance = better value, but medical questionnaire and possible exclusions.
Is health insurance mandatory for the O-A visa?+
Yes, since 2019. Minimum coverage: 40,000 THB outpatient and 400,000 THB hospitalization. Insurance must be from an approved insurer.
Can my Thai spouse benefit from the CFE?+
The Thai spouse can be covered as a CFE dependent if they meet the conditions. In France, they can join CPAM after obtaining a residence permit.
How much does health insurance cost in Thailand?+
Premiums range from 15,000 to 80,000 THB per year depending on age, coverage level, deductible and whether hospitalization is included. Insured persons over 60 pay significantly higher premiums. We compare offers for you.
Does the CFE cover healthcare in Thailand?+
Yes, the CFE reimburses healthcare based on French Social Security rates. A supplementary health plan is strongly recommended to cover the difference. There is no direct billing: you pay upfront and request reimbursement.
