Frequently asked questions

Visa & Immigration

Which visa to live in Thailand as a French national?+
Several options exist: tourist visa (60 days), Non-O for retirement (over 50), Non-B for work, ED for studies, Elite (5 to 20 years) or DTV for digital nomads. We advise you on the right visa for your situation.
How long does the visa process take?+
The duration varies by visa type: 3-5 business days for a tourist visa, 1-2 weeks for retirement or work visa. We provide a precise timeline from the first consultation.
Can I extend my visa while in Thailand?+
Yes, most visas can be extended at the local immigration office. Tourist visas can be extended by 30 days, retirement visas are renewable annually. We handle extensions for you.
What documents are needed for a visa application?+
Documents vary by visa type: passport valid for 6+ months, photos, financial proof (for retirement), employment contract (for Non-B), etc. We provide you with the complete checklist.
How much does a retirement visa cost in Thailand?+
The official retirement visa (Non-O/O-A) fee is 1,900 THB. You must also prove a bank deposit of 800,000 THB in a Thai bank or a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB. These financial conditions are verified at each annual renewal.
What is the difference between the O-A and O-X visa?+
The O-A visa is valid for 1 year and renewable, requiring an 800,000 THB deposit. The O-X visa offers 5 years but requires a 3 million THB deposit. Both are for people aged 50 and over. The O-X also requires approved health insurance.
Can you stay in Thailand without a visa?+
French nationals benefit from a 60-day visa exemption on arrival. This period can be extended by 30 days at the immigration office (1,900 THB). No work activity is allowed under this regime. Beyond that, a proper visa is required.
Is insurance required for the O-A visa?+
Yes, health insurance has been mandatory since 2019 for the O-A visa. Minimum required coverage is 40,000 THB for outpatient care and 400,000 THB for hospitalization. The insurance must come from an insurer approved by Thai authorities.
